Great Places to Eat in Devon & Dorset
There really is a great choice of places to eat out locally, from pubs and restuarants to quailty farms shops and garden centres as well as cafes and cream teas. Generally you will have to drive so we recommend you also check out the onsite restuarant The Ploughmans during your stay.

The Ship Inn, Axmouth – 01297 218 38
Ship Inn is a family run restaurant and pub featuring a sumptuously varied menu offering locally sourced meats, fresh fish from Lyme Bay, hand-picked crabs from Beer and vegetables from nearby farms.
The Ship Inn also boasts a huge beer garden in the back with stunning views out over the River Axe. Look out for Friday’s – with their outdoor wood fired pizza’s – delicious. Dog friendly, Family Pub.

The Tuckers Arms, Dalwood – 01404 881 342
Our village local, the Tuckers Arms offers great fresh food, using local producers. Opens at 6pm for evening restaurant meals. also Sunday roasts.
There are well-kept cask ales and a large selection of global award winning wines including our local Dalwood Wine. They also have a double skittle alley and beer garden and often host music and jazz.
The pub is approx. 20 minutes walk from Andrewshayes through the lanes. Booking advisable.

Currently closed and under refurbishment.
Easy parking just off the A35. Dogs only in the beer garden.

Cosy, thatched Devon longhouse serving real ales, this pub has remained a real locals pub that serves excellent value, traditional good pub food and Sunday roasts.
It’s a hidden Devon gem with large secluded gardens. If you are feeling fit you can walk through the woods along the old Roman Road to the pub (starts from just across the main road at Andrewshayes), about 1.5 miles each way.

This 16th Century Coaching Inn commands an enviable position, conveniently situated on the main A35 where Devon & Dorset meet, between the bustling market town of Axminster, and the beautiful seaside town of Lyme Regis, the gateway to the Jurassic Coast.

If you are heading back from Weymouth or Bridport, The George is a friendly, Dorset thatched pub is popular with both locals and holidaymakers throughout the year. Set in the heart of picturesque village of Chideock, close to the Devon and Dorset boarders on the A35.
You’ll find freshly prepared seasonal menus alongside their Palmers casked ales. Pets and Children welcome. They create wonderful home made pizzas every Thursday night from their wood fired pizza oven.
The Hare & Hounds, Between Honiton and Sidbury 01404 41760
This traditional country pub has wooden beams and log fires but also has a large extension ensuring plenty of space. Renown locally for years for their Carvery, they also offer an extensive menu of freshly prepared classic pub food.
Outside, as well as two car parks, there is a children’s play area set within a large garden which boasts beautiful views down the valley to Sidmouth and the sea. The surrounding area has many footpaths and is a popular destination for walkers. Dogs are allowed in the Tap Bar.

The Fountain Head is a 14th Century pub serving traditional, award winning real ales from the Branscombe Vale Brewery and good old fashioned cooking!
There are not many pubs left like the Fountain. An open log fire, slate flags on the floor and home cooked food at prices that won’t break the bank.
This is a place to enjoy some good conversation, to sup some ale, to relax. There are no juke boxes, pool tables or wide screen televisions. Just a very warm welcome and everything that pubs used to be.

In the heart of Branscombe, one of Britain’s most picturesque villages, is the award winning, 14th Century, The Masons Arms. This charming thatched Inn dates back to 1350 – a cider house turned country pub – and the men who cut the stone for Exeter Cathedral drank here, hence the name.
With only a leisurely ten minute stroll to Branscombe Beach, The Masons Arms offers an ideal base to escape the stresses of modern life and enjoy the charm of a lovely Devon village.

The Fish Bar, Charmouth 01297 560 220
There are a number of Fish and Chip shops. But if you want to really good fish and chips, this is one of our favourites. They also do local pies, burgers, curries, jacket potatoes to eat in or takeaway. Fresh smoothies, milk shakes and hot chocolate made with real chocolate.
The Fish Bar is also a Pizzeria, with a choice of 12 mouth-watering pizzas in 3 sizes. Freshly prepared and cooked in a traditional stone based pizza oven.

Treat yourself to a top quality meal and enjoy stunning views of the Cobb and Jurassic coast while enjoying local fish and seafood.
The Oyster & Fish House overlooks the harbour in Lyme Regis and boasts panoramic views across the Jurassic coast – this is easily one of the most picturesque spots to enjoy fresh British fish seafood.
The Fish House is a light and airy dining room with simple white wooden tables and chairs and an outside balcony. Here the focus is on sourcing and serving the best produce they can find and doing as little to it as possible so that you enjoy the real flavour of great British ingredients. This restaurant is a cut above the usual places to eat in terms of price and quality.

If you are heading for a day out in Bridport or West Bay this is a great spot. On Saturdays the lively Bridport Market offers flowers, food and antiques and tucked away on St Michael’s Trading Estate visit the hippyish Red Brick Café. Such a great cafe and “off the beaten track” but still in the heart of Bridport. You will feel part of a creative and independent hub within an urban vintage setting, surrounded by brick a brac and antique traders..
The Red Brick serves breakfast, coffee and lunch and it is all homemade and pretty darn good. Best seats are outside on a sunny day with a full view of the secondhand treasures around you. Oh and on a Saturday they now sell fresh local organic veg
