Autumn Half Term Days Out and Events

There are lots of fantastic days out near Andrewshayes in the Autumn, from exploring on the beach, countryside walks, museums and lots of events at local attractions. Over the October half term holiday many of these tourist attractions hold special events and we are delighted to help share some of these with you here.

Seaton Tramway Halloween Tram of Terror– Dress up in your spookiest clothes and ride the Tram of Terror. Enjoy revolting refreshments and spooky entertainment. Children all receive a baddie bag. Dates between 27th and 31st October Booking essential.

Seaton Wetlands – Autumn crafts are being held on the 22nd October. In addition to this you can still enjoy the great views and bird spotting in one of the many hides. Rangers are on held to lend binoculars and information.

World of Country Life Exmouth– Lots of  activities throughout the holiday. This year they have a have a children’s show Defrosted on for 3 days (22nd – 24th Oct) at 2pm as well as ferret racing. From Saturday 26th – Thursday 31st Oct follow the Halloween Activity Trail. Plus pumpkin carving on Weds 30th & Thurs 31st October.  You will also find an indoor play area and don’t forget to walk a goat and take the deer train.

Pumpkin Trail at Killerton House (National Trust) near Exeter–  Kiilerton has extensive grounds and woods, perfect for a lovely autumn walk. There is also a house to look around and the younger ones can have fun following the pumpkin trail while exploring the gardens, look high and low for all the pumpkin faces. The pumpkin trail runs from Saturday 19th  October to Sunday 3rd November, 11am – 4pm and is free.

The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth

 

Get outdoors this Autumn and enjoy the Donkey trick or treat trail (19th Oct – 3rd Nov) and pumpkin carving (Weds 23rd – Thurs 31st). Meet all the Donkeys on your scenic walk around the Sanctuary and enjoy a delicious lunch or coffee and cake in the lovely cafe.

The Donkey Sanctuary is free to enter however there is a charge of £3 for each of the activities. Dogs allowed.

Pecorama Beer Heights Railway- Between 19th and 31st October ride the frights light railway for some spooky Halloween fun. Enjoy family friendly entertainment including jugglers and magicians.

Spooky Tours at Powderham Castle, near Exeter- As well as the castle and gardens you can partake in a spooky tour and pumpkin carving between 20th October and 1st November. It’s an extra £3 charge for the pumpkin carving.

Disney on Ice Westpoint Arena Exeter- Young and old will enjoy the spectacular Disney show held on dates between the 23rd October – 27th October.

Crealy Adventure Park, Exeter–  A fun family theme park with rides and play areas for all ages.

As well as all the normal activities between the 19th -26th October enjoy the Crealy Spookfest. New attractions include the Halloween Glow, Jester’s 3D Fun Maze and the Witches of the Wilderness.

The infamous Creaky Hotel is re-opening its haunted doors, plus FREE pumpkins for every child who visits the Theme Park.

Finally on the 26th and 27th October stay late for the annual special firework extravaganza celebrating 30 years of Crealy.

Wildwood Escot: Animals, mazes, indoor and outdoor play areas, zip wire, authentic Saxon village and regular daytime activities. Enjoy a full day at Wildwood Escot in the half term.

Haldon Forest,  Exeter-  An alien space ship has crashed into Haldon Forest and Shaun the Sheep is on a mission to help the inhabitant – a lovable alien called Lu-La.

Buy the Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon Glow Trail Pack to get your hands on UV pen, activity book, stickers, Shaun ears and more! Get it from the Rangers Office from 9.30am – 4.30pm for just £3.50. Download the app before you arrive at Haldon to complete challenges and solve UV puzzles in the forest. This is a lovely woodland where you can also hire bikes. 

Canonteign Falls – Just the other side of Exeter England’s highest man-made waterfall, Canonteign Falls is a magnificent example of a Victorian folly set in a magical natural paradise with lakes, woodland walks and an adventure play area. 

There’s spooky fun to be had on Friday October 25th 2.45pm – 6.30pm with Halloween craft activities in the cafe from 1pm.  From 3pm there will be a spooktacular spells and potions interactive theatre event with the fantastic witches of The Pocket Watch Theatre Company. End your visit with a night walk around the lake and lower waterfall …if you dare!
Perfect for children aged 4 upwards! Activities are an extra £4 per child and includes a free children’s hot chocolate, children under 5yrs go free). Torches, warm clothes and suitable footwear for the night walk which will take you around the lake and to the lower waterfall by torch light.

Lyme Regis and Charmouth- Explore the beaches for fossils and discover the creatures in the rock pools. Check online for guide fossil walks and book ahead via Charmouth Heritage Centre of Lyme Regis Museum.
